Dr. Marta Wayne

Associate Provost and Dean of the International Center


Dr. Marta Wayne oversees and provides strategic guidance for comprehensive campus internationalization. She works to foster global partnerships; facilitate faculty, staff, and student exchange programs; ensure that university processes are equitable to international students and other international members of the UF community; advocate for policies that advance university internationalization; and promote transformational international student experiences such as Study Abroad. Prior to assuming her current role, Dr. Wayne served for seven years as the Chair of Biology in CLAS, and before that as the inaugural Director of the interdisciplinary Genetics & Genomics Graduate Program. She is an affiliate faculty member in the Centers for Latin American Studies and Gender, Sexualities, and Women’s Studies. Dr. Wayne’s previous international experiences include developing and leading a Study Abroad program in collaboration with Dr. Gillian Lord; conducting research in Mexico and Canada; mentoring numerous international students and postdocs; and serving as a lifetime member and later President of the Society for Molecular Biology & Evolution, an international scientific society with members all over the world.

Dr. Wayne earned her bachelor’s degree from UC San Diego in biology with a minor in Literature, and her Ph.D. from Princeton University in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology. She is an AAAS Lifetime Fellow, an AIEA Presidential Fellow, and has received multiple awards for teaching and mentoring here at UF.
