Interim deans appointed to helm two UF colleges


Two longtime UF professors and academic leaders have been named as interim deans of their colleges.

Dr. Warren Dixon has been appointed interim dean of the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering and Dr. Kevin Ingersent has been appointed interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Dr. Dixon has served as the chair of the Wertheim College’s department of mechanical and aerospace engineering since 2021. A Dean’s Leadership Professor and Distinguished Professor, he joined UF in 2004 from Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He earned his doctorate in electrical engineering from Clemson University in 2000.

His research, which focuses on adaptive control techniques for autonomous systems, has been recognized with numerous best-paper, early- and mid-career awards. He is a Fellow of multiple societies and is a Distinguished Member of the IEEE Control Systems Society. He served as a member of the U. S. Air Force Science Advisory Board for which his service was recognized by the Air Force Commander's Public Service Award. In addition to a commitment to service, he has also received accolades for his mentorship, including the UF College of Engineering Doctoral Dissertation Mentoring Award and the Department of Energy Outstanding Mentor Award.

Prof. Kevin Ingersent

Professor Ingersent has been the interim associate dean of CLAS since 2023. A faculty member in the department of physics, he was the department’s associate chair from 2009 to 2013 and chair from 2013 to 2021. He joined UF in 1992 and received his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1990.

He has taught at all curriculum levels, from undergraduate general education courses to advanced graduate classes. His research focuses on modeling and predicting the behavior of quantum materials. He has served on the CLAS Finance Committee, Faculty Council and Curriculum Committee and the Faculty Senate.

Both Dr. Dixon and Dr. Ingersent will serve one-year appointments ending in July 2026.
